Course Requirements
1. Personal Goals Each
learner sets specific goals for himself for each
of the three project goals.
2. Testing
Program
a) Written test of camping
skills
b) Practical tests of team competence
3. Specialty Areas: Each
learner completes written and practical tests in one
of four areas of their choice: Nature and
Navigation, Cooking, Camping, Safety. Team captains
have a separate Leadership Skills program.
4. Leadership Skills:
Daily classes, practical exercises and a written
test cover the skills of a leader for all
participants.
5. Attendance and Punctuality:
Every absence for whatever reason
must be made up to receive a passing grade for the
course. Punctuality is very important.
6. Final report and
Trail journal: A written personal evaluation of
the whole experience and a daily journal of the
Appalachian Trail must be turned in. All fees must
be paid and equipment returned in good condition.
The Backpacking Patch is
awarded to those who complete the Appalachian Trail.
The ARROW MAN PIN is awarded those who achieve a
grade of "B” or higher and are approved by
their captain and company staff.
