The Benedict News, the student newspaper

The Benedict News has had a long and illustrious history at St. Benedict's Prep. Former editors include Father Mark Payne, O.S.B., now Director of Admissions at St. Benedict's and Father Boniface Treanor, O.S.B., the school treasurer.

The Benedict News is currently published seven times during the academic year from summer phase through spring phase. The student reporters who have taken the Introduction to Journalism class write some stories. The editors are all members of the Advanced Journalism class and are responsible for stories and production—including copyediting, layout and submission to the printer. Editors also develop ideas for and write the editorials. Editors are selected for Advanced Journalism by the adviser. The paper also has positions for photographers and graphic artists.

The Benedict News is a member of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the Garden State Scholastic Press Association and the Journalism Education Association and the Quill and Scroll, an honor society. Staff members and editors attend the annual conference at Columbia University every March and the JEA convention in November.

The Benedict News has been chosen as both a gold and silver medallist by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
