Strengthening Academics

We need to reduce size of certain classes from 25 to 30 students to 20 per section, especially in English and mathematics, but also in other disciplines, by adding new teachers and reducing the number of sections each teacher leads. In this way, we hope to offer additional support to students. Such help may take the form of improved counseling and follow-up through our guidance department, or it might come from our planned new Center for Academic Achievement. In addition, we need to redress longstanding gaps in art and music. It is well past time for us to add a full-fledged music program, with at least one teacher devoted to that discipline in varied forms – in classes, in choral work, and in small ensembles.

New endowment funds of $3 million could support these positions permanently.
