GRAY BEES AVENGE EARLIER SEASON LOSS TO ADVANCE INTO STATE PREP CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Feb. 16, 2017

St. Benedict’s avenged one of its earlier season losses with a dominating, 70-54, effort over Peddie on Thursday in the semifinals of the State Prep A Tournament in Hightstown.

The Gray Bees, which lost to Peddie, 66-57, at home five weeks ago, showed a lot more discipline this time out against the school from Mercer County.

Coach Mark Taylor’s squad, which will go after its third straight Prep A Championship on Saturday against Blair in Blairstown, was led by Bourama Sidibe (18 points) and Precious Achiuwa (17 points). Sidibe had 8 points and Achiuwa, who also hauled in 13 rebounds, and Warren Williams each had 4 in the second quarter when the Gray Bees scored 22 points to take a 36-22 lead into the halftime break.

The Gray Bees and Blair have met for the state title in each of the last five seasons with SBP winning four of those, including a 64-52 triumph in last year’s Prep A decider.
