ABOUT ST. BENEDICT'S PREPARATORY SCHOOL

St. Benedict's Preparatory School is inspired by the 1,500-year-old Benedictine tradition of Christian education that combines rigorous study with an emphasis on building a community whose members are responsible to one another for developing virtue, character, and talent. Building on a 130-year tradition of educating the sons of hardworking immigrants within Newark and neighboring communities, St. Benedict's continues to be demanding but supportive, tough but caring, and counts many of New Jersey's finest scholars, athletes, and business, professional, civic, and religious leaders among its alumni.

Students come from 100 towns and about 215 schools; more than 60 are from 23 other countries; and about 40% are Catholics.

Faculty
Twenty-one of the fifty-three faculty members of St Benedict's are alumni of the school and nine are monks of Newark Abbey. Twenty-three faculty members hold master's degrees, and five have earned doctorate degrees.

College Acceptance Data
Of the Class of 2007, 97% have gone directly to college, with 68% accepted to their first choice. 65% were accepted to schools rated "most difficult" to "moderately difficult" by Peterson's Guide to Four Year Colleges and Universities. School Calendar
First Term: (5 weeks in August - mandatory)
LD/FY take four academic courses that continue in the fall. UD/SY take intensive advanced or remedial courses.

Fall/Winter Term: (two 14-week semesters)
College prep courses with many activities and sports.

Spring Term:(5 weeks in May)
Out-of-classroom and community-service projects with exchange programs through The Network of Complementary Schools.
