St. Benedict's Preparatory School is looking for dedicated young musicians to participate in a pioneering jazz program, Jazz@SBP.

Students will participate in an after-school combo daily, perform in a large ensemble, and follow a dedicated music track that includes:

  • Jazz History
  • Jazz Improvisation
  • Jazz Theory
  • Arranging
  • Piano Skills
  • Computer Music Skills

Students will also study privately with a New York-area professional.

Director Dr. JEREMY FLETCHER has led the music program at St. Benedict's Prep for 12 years. He has also contributed to three Grammy-nominated albums by drummer Bobby Sanabria, including West Side Story Reimagined, the Jazz Journalists Association 2019 Record of The Year. Dr. Fletcher received his DMA in Jazz Arts Advancement from Manhattan School of Music in 2008. His students have been recognized in DownBeat Magazine.

Artistic advisor GARRY DIAL is an alumnus of St. Benedict's Preparatory School. Throughout his remarkable career, he has performed with such jazz legends as Red Rodney, Dick Oatts, Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Roy Haynes, Mel Lewis, Nat Adderly, Joe Lovano, and Joey Bergonzi. While teaching at Manhattan School of Music and now at Jersey City University, Dial has passed on his vast musical knowledge to many of today and tomorrow's rising musical stars.
