CREW TEAM OPENS 2018 SPRING SEASON WITH BACK-TO-BACK REGATTAS

The St. Benedict’s rowers get their spring season underway with a pair of events over the weekend.

Coach Craig White’s Gray Bees opened the season with its first of two home events of the season in the Metropolitan Youth Speed Order Regatta on the Passaic River on Saturday. The top varsity 8+ shell finished second overall after posting a personal best time of 5:20.8 over the 1,700-meter course.

The Gray Bees second varsity 8+ boat finished third in their time trial with a personal best of 5:43.5, but missed advancing to the final by four-tenths of a second.

St. Benedict’s top two 8+ shells were at it again a day later in the Fourth Manny Flick Regatta in Philadelphia. Coach White’s top varsity 8+ racers, which consisted of Julius Lopina-Carpenter, Kevin D'Almieda, Ivan Jordan, Malachi Hinds, Noah King, Esteban Lema, Oliver De Leon, Cory Arias-Cespedes and Fernando Recalde, finished with a time of 4:56.27 over the 1,500-meter course. The Gray Bees’ second boat posted a time of 5:09.41.
