Boys Varsity Basketball

Gray Bee boys basketball is rooted in grit, resilience and community.

An integral part of the professional basketball pipeline from the New York Metro, SBP has long set the standard for success in boys basketball.

Led for nine years by Dan Hurley, two-time NCAA championship-winning coach, the Gray Bees enjoyed their longest stretch of success under the New Jersey native’s tenure. Hurley led SBP to a 223-21 overall record while head coach and became the fastest coach in New Jersey basketball history to reach 200 wins. In 2024, Hurley was inducted into the St. Benedict's Prep Hall of Fame. The likes of J.R. Smith, Lance Thomas, Bashir Mason, Corey Stokes and Samardo Samuels all passed through The Hive’s halls and through the program’s hands.

In the years following, SBP continued to produce quality basketball and prepare players for the next level. Tyler Ennis, Lester Quiñones and Precious Achiuwa would usher in the next chapter, continuing The Hive’s storied success into the 2010s.

Now, Chris Simpson ’10 returns to The Hive, not as a student or a team manager, but as the new head coach of Gray Bee boys basketball. Trained under Coach Hurley, Chris' commitment to community, player development and the values of St. Benedict’s shapes his team on and off the court.
