Boys Varsity Wrestling

Hustle. Pride. Desire.

A mainstay of high school wrestling in New Jersey, Gray Bee Wrestling has always set the standard. Mike "Big D" DiPiano, Sr. H'82, head coach and Athletic Director for over 20 years, member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Newark Athletic Hall of Fame and SBP's Hall of Fame with a win total surpassing 250, left a permanent mark on The Hive. Big D took local talent who hadn't ever seen a mat and not only made them winners — he made them part of his family. Karen DiPiano H'01, longtime Athletics secretary and Big D's wife, kept it all together, adding to the family's storied impact at The Hive.

Mike DiPiano, Jr. '95 would follow in his father's footsteps, coaching wrestling and earning his spot in SBP's Hall of Fame. Today, Big D's youngest son, Frank DiPiano '01, heads the Athletic Department. A SBP Hall of Famer himself, Frank notched a 217-49 record between his high school and coaching careers.

Combined, the father-son coaching trio won over 300 matches for The Hive, produced countless All-American wrestlers and etched themselves in wrestling history. Legends through the halls of 520.

Today, head coach Harry Turner carries that same spirit on and off the mat, fostering homegrown talent and bringing wrestlers into one big family.
