Football's history at The Hive stretches back generations. From the Gray Bee teams that took the field throughout the early to mid-20th century to a new generation of student-athletes carrying the game forward today, the sport has returned to St. Benedict's in a new form: Girls Flag Football.

The program made history from its very first offensive possession when Kayla Jones '26 took a 51-yard pass from Laelle Stewart '26 to the house. The Gray Bees went on to win their inaugural game 13-0, securing the first official football victory at St. Benedict's since the boys tackle football program competed more than 50 years earlier.

In the years since, the young program has quickly established a legacy of its own. Jones emerged as one of the country's most productive flag football players, accumulating more than 3,000 career rushing yards and finishing among the top 10 rushers nationally. Her success, alongside the growth of her teammates and the program around her, represents a new chapter in the long history of football at The Hive.

Today's Gray Bees aren't simply bringing football back to St. Benedict's. They're making it their own and building a culture centered on opportunity, confidence and competition, all while creating a tradition for the generations of young women who will follow.

The game has changed. The Gray Bee spirit hasn't.
