Varsity Swimming

Gray Bee Swimming is driven by personal improvement and accountability. In a sport measured by fractions of a second, every practice is an opportunity for student-athletes to compete against their own standard and discover how far commitment and consistency can take them.

Restarted as a club sport for the 1987-88 season under Coach Brian Ippolito, the program has provided generations of Gray Bees with an opportunity to challenge themselves in the pool. That opportunity reached the world's biggest stage through Cullen Jones '02, who helped the United States capture gold in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The relay's world-record performance made Jones the first African American swimmer to hold a world record. Four years later, Jones returned to the Olympic stage in London, earning another gold medal and two silver medals.

Today, head coach Nico Jasbon carries that tradition forward, emphasizing the personal improvement and accountability that swimming demands. Every swimmer enters the pool with different goals, abilities and experiences, but each is challenged to leave better than they entered.
