Class of 2024 Hall of Fame
Stephen and Maria Sokolewicz, brother and sister-in-law of Joe Sokolewicz H’12
Cherishing the legacy Joe Sokolewicz H’12
Known as “Mr. S,” or simply “S” around The Hive, Joe Sokolewicz H’12 was inducted posthumously into the Hall of Fame on October 1. A beloved, longtime faculty member and coach of basketball and baseball, Mr. Sokolewicz influenced generations of Gray Bees. He was a “tough but compassionate,” math teacher, a wise coach and a mentor committed to seeing every kid succeed. Joe passed away in 2022. His brother, Stephen Sokolewicz and sister-in-law, Maria Sokolewicz, accepted the Medal of St. Benedict’s on his behalf.
“It is truly a blessing to know how much Joe was loved and respected amongst his peers, friends and the School community that meant so much to him and played such an integral in his life and career,” said Stephen. “Tonight’s remarks are ones in which I would give anything not to be making myself. It should be Joe up here accepting this. This honor reaffirms what his family knew all along about Joe: that for 63 years on this earth he was a good man with a heart of gold, doing God’s work in the service of those with whom he had served. On behalf of my family, we are grateful for the acknowledgement of Joe’s labor of love here at The Hive.”
