Remembering a Selfless Commitment to The Hive

Long time math teacher, basketball and golf coach and most recently school Registrar, Joseph M. Sokolewicz H’12, died Friday, July 1. 

A graduate of the University of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, “S” came to St. Benedict’s in 1990 and taught math – algebra and geometry – and coached basketball. He was varsity basketball head coach in 2000-2001 and was also an assistant varsity coach. After an illness kept him away from The Hive for a year, he returned as Registrar in 2018. Joe was an avid golfer and also recently coached golf at St. Benedict’s. 

Joe was an example of absolutely selfless commitment to St. Benedict’s. Whatever he was asked to do, he did.”

In 2012, the St. Benedict’s Alumni Association named him an honorary member of the Class of 2012.

Joe’s sister, Catherine, his brother, Stephen and his wife, Maria, and three nieces survive him. His St. Benedict’s family mourns Joe’s loss. May he rest in peace.
