It’s an American Game

The 2026 FIFA World Cup being played in the U.S. spurred Tom McCabe Ph.D. H’02 (a preeminent soccer historian who taught for 17 years at The Hive) and television producer and writer Kirk Rudell to launch the podcast An American Game, The podcasters, former teammates at Princeton University, explore stories from 150 years of American soccer that even the most die-hard fans may not know. 

The recent season 2 episode, “Our Family Versus Your Team: Inside the St. Benedict’s Soccer Dynasty,” examines why Gray Bee Soccer has dominated high school soccer in the U.S. for the past 40 years. “St. Benedict’s may be not just the most dominant boys program in U.S. history,” said Dr. McCabe at the top of the broadcast. “It may be the most dominant high school program on the national level, period.”
