James Duffy H’16 Named Officer of the ICBE

James Duffy H’16

The International Commission on Benedictine Education (ICBE) named James Duffy H’16 Treasurer in April. Mr. Duffy is Dean of the Middle Division at St. Benedict’s Prep and serves as a co-delegate of Benetna, the network of Benedictine secondary schools in North America, and the regional network of the ICBE.

The origin of the ICBE dates to a meeting of Benedictine schools in Western Europe and the U.S. in 1999. “Benedictine Abbeys had always operated on their own,” said Mr. Duffy. The ICBE, which encompassed K-12 Benedictine schools in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S. when officially established in 2002, created opportunities for schools to collaborate and strengthen Benedictine mission and traditions. As Treasurer, one of Mr. Duffy’s chief roles is managing and allocating funds raised for the international conference of Benedictine educators held every three years. The ICBE provides scholarships and sponsorships to offset the cost of attending the international conference, which has been held in Manila, Rome, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro.

The next ICBE conference will be held in 2026. The tentative location is Melk, Austria. Mr. Duffy and several St. Benedict’s Prep faculty members are expected to attend.
