Showcasing New and Unseen Art

Interpretive artwork by St. Benedict’s Prep students once again graced the cafeteria to commemorate the return of the Interdisciplinary Project showcase on March 31. The event featured a range of work based on the timely theme, “Stay and Build: Remember the Past — Invent the Future.”  Chair of the Fine Arts Department Pamela Wye-Hunsinger H’18 said this year’s project was an ideal vehicle for students to reclaim Benedict’s traditions in the wake of COVID-19, while addressing ways for the School and community to improve. A centerpiece of the “Stay and Build” exhibit was a series of student self-portraits that rendered shared values using a single motto, song lyric or affirmation as inspiration. A collection of unseen art also went on view for the first time. “50 Years of Latino and Hispanic Legacy at SBP,” the theme of the 2019-20 Interdisciplinary Project, had its showcase canceled due to COVID-19. A study of Mexican folk art angels, graphic novels exploring Latinx themes and other artwork was also exhibited on March 31 for members of the St. Benedict’s community to appreciate and enjoy.
