The Gray Bee track team had its second team to qualify for the Millrose Games, while the hoop team won another home game on Wednesday night against Peddie.
St. Benedict’s 4x400-meter team of Lewis Ngwenya, Jackson Burnett, Isaiah Sanchez and Albert Chawonza posted a time of 3:21.18 at the Millrose Trails at the New York Armory and joined the 4x800 team, which qualified earlier this season at the Catholic Conference Relays.
Both relay teams will compete in the Millrose Games on Feb. 9. The 4x800m relay team of Ronald Kigen, Ngwenya, Burnett and Chawonza ran the fastest time (7:47.6) in the country on Dec. 9 and it still stands in the new year.
The hoop team (see photos below) posted an 80-63 verdict over Peddie at Dalton Gym, its sixth straight in Dalton Gym, behind a 23-point, 7-rebound effort by Zarique Nutter. Aaron Estrada added 19 points and C.J. Wilcher chipped in with 16.
