Our Community

St. Benedict’s Prep partners with local, national and global organizations to build understanding, bridge divides and strengthen communities. Through these collaborations, we create meaningful programs and outreach initiatives that promote unity, education and positive change.

The Fr. Mark Payne Institute

After “60 Minutes” aired its story on St. Benedict’s Prep in 2016, parents, educators and religious leaders from around the country contacted The Hive with two questions: how do you do it? and how can we utilize the Benedict’s model to make our own schools and communities more successful? The Fr. Mark Payne Institute was established soon after.

Newark Abbey

One of the only urban monasteries in the United States, monks have lived in the heart of Newark, New Jersey since 1857. Living in community according to the Rule of St. Benedict, the monks pray together five times a day while wholeheartedly serving the People of God through active apostolates in Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School, Saint Mary’s Church and other missions around Greater Newark. Vowed to stability and deeply committed to pursuit of God and service to the Church in the heart of urban New Jersey, monastic life at Newark Abbey is one of the country's most unique witnesses to the Light of Faith.

Building Bridges - New Jersey State Police

The Building Bridges initiative at St. Benedict’s Prep fosters understanding and trust between communities of color and law enforcement. Launched in 2021 in collaboration with the Victory Road Leadership Development Group, the program unites Benedict’s students and New Jersey State Troopers for shared experiences that include physical challenges, mental and emotional growth, team building and guided reflection.

Designed as a national model, Building Bridges can be replicated in communities across the country to strengthen relationships, promote dialogue and create lasting change. The program is generously sponsored by Davis Polk and The Other Fellow First Foundation.

United States Naval Academy

Since 2007, St. Benedict’s Prep has maintained a unique and prestigious partnership with the United States Naval Academy (USNA) focused on leadership development and mentorship. Each May and August, up to 15 USNA Midshipmen reside on the St. Benedict’s campus working directly with students to strengthen their leadership skills while refining their own.

As the only school partner in the USNA internship program, St. Benedict’s Prep is recognized as one of the most sought-after placements for Midshipmen. This collaboration has inspired seven Gray Bee graduates to enroll at the U.S. Naval Academy since the program’s inception continuing a legacy of service, discipline and leadership excellence.
