Newark Abbey is home to St. Benedict's Prep
Newark Abbey is home to St. Benedict’s Preparatory School and serves as a shared and sacred space in the heart of Newark’s University Heights neighborhood. This beautiful 12-acre property—known simply as The Property—includes the historic monastery, St. Mary’s Church and the School’s Middle Division, Boys Prep Division and Girls Prep Division.
In addition to the main campus at 520 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, St. Benedict’s operates its Elementary Division at the Livingston Street campus in Newark. The School also utilizes Munsee, a 100-acre outdoor property in Sussex County, NJ owned by Newark Abbey, which provides open space for experiential education, leadership programs and community-building activities.
With its combination of historic architecture, academic facilities and natural retreat space, Newark Abbey and St. Benedict’s Prep create an environment where students grow in faith, community and leadership.

St. Benedict’s Prep - Livingston Street Location
In September 2022, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School expanded to meet the needs of growing enrollment across all Divisions, from kindergarten through grade 12. The Livingston Street Location—home to the Elementary Division (K-6)—offers nearly 24,000 square feet of modern learning space just one-sixth of a mile from The Property at 118-132 Livingston Street, Newark, NJ.
Formerly St. Stanislaus School, the building features eight classrooms, a full gymnasium, stage, library and dedicated areas for science labs and computer/technology programs. This expansion provides younger students with a vibrant, well-equipped environment for academic growth, creativity and community building while remaining closely connected to the main St. Benedict’s campus.

Munsee Property
Located just one hour from Newark in Sussex County, New Jersey, Munsee is a 100-acre property bordering Stokes State Forest. The site features seven rustic cabins and a scenic lake, offering the perfect setting for outdoor learning, reflection and team building.
Munsee plays a vital role in The Backpacking Project—the 55-mile Appalachian Trail hike that every new St. Benedict’s Prep student must complete. It also serves as a year-round destination for student leadership training, school retreats and hands-on outdoor education programs that build resilience, community and character.
